The County Recorder is responsible for filing and recording documents that pertain to personal and real property. The Department is also required to maintain a permanent record of documents which can include, but is not limited to: deeds, mortgages, leases, easements, plats, crop liens, state and federal tax liens, and a variety of other miscellaneous instruments. Most of these records are open to the public and have been digitized to be viewed on computers in the office or on the North Dakota Recorders Information Network (NDRIN) website by members (see www.NDRIN.com).
Other duties include maintaining non-judicial records, serve as a passport acceptance facility, issue marriage licenses, and the County Recorder may officiate civil marriage ceremonies.
