43rd Avenue Corridor Study

The 43rd Avenue Corridor has been developing at a very rapid rate over the past five years. Recognizing the need to proactively plan for the continued growth along the corridor, the Bismarck – Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) submitted a funding application to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to obtain funding to conduct a study to identify a range of multimodal transportation improvements for application within the corridor. At the conclusion of this study, which is a joint effort with Burleigh County and the City of Bismarck, there will be a plan in place that will used to guide development within the corridor, particularly with respect to access locations, traffic control, roadway geometry, multimodal accommodations (bicycle/pedestrian and transit), and projected traffic volumes.

Visit the Website for additional information to include the opportunity for public comment.

Facebook

Twitter

Missouri River Rise

Burleigh County Emergency Management has received calls of concern regarding a three-foot rise in the Missouri River since Monday.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has not increased the cubic feet per second (CFS) from Garrison which has remained at 16,000 CFS. “The three-foot fluctuation is contributed to the natural freezing process of the Missouri River and ice conditions. Fluctuations and high stages are anticipated through the winter season” reports Todd Lindquist, Garrison Operations Project Manager.

The Burleigh County Highway Department is reporting the River is frozen south of Double Ditch and contains no open channels at this time. “We are entering the winter season with higher levels in the River and Creeks,” says Rodney Ness, Burleigh County Road Superintendent, “and the areas continue to be monitored by local officials.”

Burleigh County Emergency Management will be starting their spring weather planning meetings with local officials in January, 2011.
