Road Paving

Road Paving Crew
Most rural residents would prefer to drive on pavement. However, in most cases, funding is the main obstacle. Generally speaking, asphalt paving costs approximately $280,000 per mile, but can vary widely depending on the current asphalt price, road width and asphalt thickness. Most of the paving requests come from within rural subdivisions, all of which are within the jurisdiction of the local township. In all cases involving subdivisions, the project is initiated by the residents within, and is financed through a special assessment procedure. Paving on township feeder roads and section line roads is decided and funded by the local township boards. In most cases the County will assist the townships with various levels of funding based on traffic count on these heavier traveled roads.
